2010 brings with it all new possibilities and I'm excited about that. Today I started working on a new painting for a juried event -- took me a while to finalize my drawing, but I think I've got it. Now the easy stuff happens -- photo shoot with my wife, deciding on dress style, hair style/color, type of dog, boat reference, fish reference, etc. It's all coming together. We'll see what tomorrow brings. . .
An artist I respect once told me this, and truer words were never spoken. Not that the work is insurmountable or that there's no opportunity for intrinsic reward, and heck, most of the time it's actually fun. But it's really HARD some days!! Here I am trying to pull it all together (see, it's hard. . .).
Thinking about new compositions today. I love this part of the process -- creative brainstorming and just throwing down ideas onto paper re: poses, settings, etc. Everything seems possible at this stage. The irony is that this is also when I can feel overwhelmed and frozen. Just 'slow down and focus,' as my wife tells me when I get like this!
Nicole and I are heading to TN for our first trade show as exhibitors this week. We're excited and exhausted, after all the planning. Our destination is 12 hours away. . .we're not only looking forward to making new business contacts, but also getting away from Florida's humid/warm weather to enjoy some chilly weather and Fall leaves. More blog entries when we get back. . .
