Florida Kitsch

Great article in the Gasparilla Magazine titled Florida Kitsch (Nancy Theoret) which touts the many fun, funky things that make Florida unique, and have for decades.  My mid-century artwork is included in the article, so please check it out – it’s a fun piece.  BTW, who hasn’t seen these and wanted to take some home?!?

Best Coast Florida Map is Here!

Last summer I was commissioned by the Editor of The Scout Guide to create a special image for her new publication in the Sarasota area.  It was a fun project, and finally an opportunity to create a painting  reminiscent of cute, old-Florida postcards beckoning folks to Florida — something I’ve wanted to do for some time.  The painting captures barrier islands of the SW coast, from Anna Maria to Boca Grande.  It also highlights fun vignettes like Tarpon fishing, boating, dolphins, shopping, oranges, water skiing, and many more (P.S. my wife’s favorite is the alligator on the golf course).

I call it “Best Coast” — makes sense to those of us who live here, right?!?  The original, 30X42 oil painting is available in my studio.  As for prints, it comes in 2 sizes of canvas prints and 1 wood sign (see below).  Check ’em out!

Mermaid Violin

A great evening last night at a private home on Longboat Key to auction off all the violins created by 21 artists (including me).  My “Mermaid Serenede” violin was purchased by a lovely lady who just happens to love mermaids AND she lives by the sea!  All auction proceeds benefitted the Perlman Music Program-Suncoast.

And speaking of mermaids, I’ve got a new one on the easel – mermaid with a dolphin — she’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.  Stay tuned.

Scout is Out!

I was commissioned last year to create an image for The Scout Guide Sarasota – a new publication highlighting independently owned businesses in Sarasota, FL.  I decided on a fun theme – an “Old Florida” postcard, highlighting barrier islands from Anna Maria to Boca Grande, with iconic images scattered throughout.  At the release party held at The Met on St. Armand’s I got to see my painting in the beautiful, new book, for the first time.  I’m pictured below with Susan Doane, Editor of TSG-Sarasota.

My original painting is available in my studio, but prints and wood signs are on the way!

2015 Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament

I’m so excited to be selected, for the 5th time (!), to represent the Boca Grande Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament!  My “Bubbly Mermaid” will be prominently displayed on limited edition posters, Tervis Tumblers, and lots of other cool swag.  It’s the Tournament’s 25th year, so I had that in mind when I was started painting my mermaid with a Tarpon and a bottle of champagne.  Stay tuned for info about the posters that will be for sale at the Boca Grande Chamber.  In the meantime, she’s available on my website as a canvas print or a wood sign!

Two for the Trail Painting

When I started my retro series I wanted to highlight some iconic spots in Florida.  Tamiami Trail seemed only fitting, since it transformed the way folks traveled after it opened in 1928.  It was expanded in the 1950s and ultimately connected two worlds between Florida’s Gulf and Atlantic coasts.  For those who traveled it, endless possibilities awaited them.  Of all the gals I’ve painted, this one most closely resembles my wife Nicole.  She and I had met a wonderful guy named Mike around the time I wanted to start the painting — he was showing his classic 1969 Corvette at a car show in Venice, FL and was happy to oblige us in taking pictures of Nicole in the car.   Many folks ask if that’s our dog enjoying the breeze.  Nope, but since Springer Spaniels were popular in the 50s (according to the AKC), I thought he would make a perfect addition!  Here’s the wood sign image, but she comes as a mini print and a canvas print, too!
