Lakewood Lass

John Schroeder, a businessman from Milwaukee, came to Manatee County, Florida in the 1900s and purchased land that became Schroeder-Manatee Ranch. It was mainly known for cattle ranching and vegetable/citrus farming.  This painting captures some of those elements, but also 'plays' on the name of what is now Lakewood Ranch, a beautiful development that has maintained its natural charm, while creating a self-contained place for a growing population.
