2015 Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament

I’m so excited to be selected, for the 5th time (!), to represent the Boca Grande Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament!  My “Bubbly Mermaid” will be prominently displayed on limited edition posters, Tervis Tumblers, and lots of other cool swag.  It’s the Tournament’s 25th year, so I had that in mind when I was started painting my mermaid with a Tarpon and a bottle of champagne.  Stay tuned for info about the posters that will be for sale at the Boca Grande Chamber.  In the meantime, she’s available on my website as a canvas print or a wood sign!

A Sailfish & Mahi Kind of Day

Last weekend I fished with friends off the east coast of Florida (Jupiter, namely) in search of mahi & sailfish.  Lost a few early on, then our luck hit.  Here’s the sailfish I landed — that’s me, the happy angler, in the background!  We also nabbed a nice mahi.  It’s not the first sailfish/mahi combo day I’ve had – check out my In the Spread painting inspired by another great day.  Art really does imitate life. . .or is it the other way around?!?

My Fishing Gal

It’s so nice to be married to someone who likes to fish!  Here’s Nicole with just one of the many fish she caught while on a charter with our friend Capt. Bill Hammond of Endless Summer Charters. It’s not too often you get a day of fishing like we had.   Perfect weather, great company, cooperative fish and yummy snacks!

Great Fishing!

Some friends were visiting Sanibel last week so Nicole and I booked a charter with our friend Capt. Bill Hammond of Endless Summer Charters.  What a fantastic day!  At several times during the afternoon, 3 or 4 of us were hooked up at one time!  It was nonstop — we caught redfish, trout, jacks, flounder, snapper, ladyfish, pufferfish and catfish (not excited about that one).  If you want to catch fish in southwest Florida, call Capt. Bill!

And if you like redfish, check out my painting titled “Waiting on the Tide“.  Canvas prints are available, too.

Epic Day Offshore Fishing

Some of my friends went offshore fishing recently (I couldn’t go due to other commitments), but the trip reminded me of this epic day we all had a couple of years ago.  Man, we were catching everything out there!  Wahoo, grouper, snapper, porgy, you name it!  Cleaning them all was another story. . .

Calculated Risk

When I finished painting this sailfish, I had to come up with a name for it.  For some reason “Calculated Risk” kept running through my mind. . .you have to wonder if the sailfish will go after the green lure?  And if he does, what kind of action will ensue?  (BTW, watching this scene is real life is really awesome!),  I also thought the title was a metaphor on life. . .ever feel like you’re taking a calculated risk?  In my life, when I have, I got some really amazing results.  But you’ll never know, until you’re willing to take a risk!

Dolphin in the Intercoastal

Going through old pics and came across our old friend “Beggar” who used to visit our boat every time we passed the Albee Road Bridge in Nokomis.  He was pretty old and passed away this Spring.  Chances are slim, but wouldn’t it be be great if another dolphin became the unofficial “mayor of the Intercoastal”?!?

Fly Fishing in Georgia

TBT!  ca. 2012. First time fly fishing in Georgia – near Elijay.  Gorgeous day, and I even caught a Rainbow Trout!

Sea Turtle Hatchling

Cute video of a baby Loggerhead sea turtle.  My friend Suzi has been a volunteer with Mote Marine for many years.  Here she’s helping a little guy find his way to the Gulf of Mexico.

Sailfish at Work

It’s an amazing thing to see several sailfish working a bait ball.  When I used to dive I was mesmerized by this.
