New Tarpon Painting “Payoff”

It’s always great when I have a chance to work on a painting for a friend who has a special connection to something.  In this case, it was my friend who had an epic day of Tarpon fishing (and I just happened to be fishing with him that day).  He got a great shot of the leaping fish on his GoPro, and asked me to re-create it so he could look at it any time he wanted to in his living room.

Using a unique size/shape canvas, it was especially fun to work on it.  When this beauty was finished, my wife and I sat back and tried to come up with a title.  We had a long list, but kept coming back to “Payoff” — we decided that, after all the hard work, dedication, hope, financial investment and time spent, it seemed only fitting that this painting be given that title.  I almost hated to deliver it to my friend because I was enjoying it so much in my studio!  But he was pretty darn happy when he saw it, and that’s just great.

Prints will be available soon!

Coastal Conservation Association Featured Artist

I’m pleased to have been selected by Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) as their Featured Artist at the October 15 event in Peace River.  I’ll be there signing limited edition lithographs and auctioning off a customized canvas print of my popular “Round ‘Em Up” gal.  CCA does great things in our community, and I’m proud to be affiliated with them.  Please check out their website for more information.

Painting in Paradise

Nice article on yours truly in the July 8 issue of the Observer.  Check out Brendan Coudal Paints Florida’s Nostalgic Paradise.  Enjoy 🙂

For the last few weeks I’ve had some great Tarpon experiences in southwest Florida!  I haven’t yet caught “the big one” this season, but I know she’s out there, just waiting for me. . .

I’ve managed to get a few to the boat, jumped several, and got some great pics along the way — here’s just one.  One of these will surely end up as a painting!

Tarpon Fishing is Awesome!

Yesterday was one of those epic days in Florida during Tarpon season.  I was fishing with my friend Shawn and we were surrounded by fish all morning.  We used blue crabs and the fish gobbled them up (I like to call them “Tarpon candy”).  This beauty gave us quite a show.  I captured it using my iPhone, in slo-mo video — sorry for the vertical shot, but it couldn’t be helped.  This is why I love Tarpon!  Check out the GoPro pic below and see my Angry Tarpon video, too!

2015 Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament

I’m so excited to be selected, for the 5th time (!), to represent the Boca Grande Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament!  My “Bubbly Mermaid” will be prominently displayed on limited edition posters, Tervis Tumblers, and lots of other cool swag.  It’s the Tournament’s 25th year, so I had that in mind when I was started painting my mermaid with a Tarpon and a bottle of champagne.  Stay tuned for info about the posters that will be for sale at the Boca Grande Chamber.  In the meantime, she’s available on my website as a canvas print or a wood sign!

Boca Belle Painting

Did you know this was the first painting I created in my retro-style series?  In early 2006 I started pouring through research material re: mid-century illustrators/artists and I got hooked.  I had a vision for a painting of a gal catching a fish, in a vintage boat, with a dog by her side, so I created 20+ sketches.  For some reason I just knew it had to be for Boca Grande (and it had to be a Tarpon – my favorite fish!).  I had Nicole pose in our garage wearing a retro-style bathing suit, holding a vintage Fin-Nor rod and fighting belt.  I hooked her line to the garage door so it would show tension/bend in the rod.  We took about a hundred pics and landed on this pose.  I have to say, she’s still one of my faves.  The original is sold, but canvas prints are available (and the location can be changed, too).

Reel Life Performance Gear

The guys at Bullpen Chatter did a nice job on a video that showcases the new line of performance shirts produced by Reel Life.  I licensed three of my marine-life images to the team and it was a fun collaboration.  Check it out!

It’s Tarpon Season!

Fishing in SW Florida is amazing!  Knowing that these awesome, huge and historic fish are swimming just by the swim zone is really something.  Here’s one I got to the boat last week — about 110 lbs. and a pretty easy fight for about 20 minutes.  Nicole was my ever-efficient mate, even snapping this shot just in time before the fish busted loose!
